NetBackup System Administrator’s Guide - Windows NT Server
D
The Maximum Physical Drives Used for Backup by the Master/Media Server
Cluster setting prevents the scheduling of extra backup jobs that will not be
able to obtain tape drive resources (that is, shared drives that are in use by
other backup jobs).
For example, assume that the master and slave servers have six physical drives
but two of them are shared by two hosts. Adding the total drive count for all
storage units yields eight drives (two drives are counted twice). In this
environment, a good setting for Max Drives this Master is 6.
Retention Periods Tab
The Retention Periods properties tab define allow you to define the retention
periods for backups and archives. When setting up a schedule, you select a
retention period that determines how long NetBackup retains the backups or
archives that it creates according to that schedule. There are 10 possible levels
from which to select, and you can change the period associated with each level.
The list in the upper half of the dialog box shows the current definition for the
10 possible levels of retention (0 through 9). The Schedule Count column
indicates how many schedules are using each level. If you change the retention
period for a level, it affects all schedules that use that level.
The procedure for changing retention periods is as follows:
1. Select the retention level that you want to change. You cannot change the
period for level 9. It will always be infinite.
The list box in lower half of the dialog box now shows the names of all
schedules that are using the selected retention level and also the class to
which each schedule belongs.
2. Click Units and then select the units for the new retention period.
3. In the Value box, type the new retention period.
Retention periods can range from 0 (no retention) to 30 years.
Note:
When you change either Units or Value, an asterisk (*) appears in the
Changes Pending column to indicate that the period was changed. NetBackup
does not change the actual configuration until you click Apply or OK.
4. Click Impact Report.
