Chapter 6

General Software Information

This chapter provides software-related information for SmartPass

®

AI16XX systems. The information covers version 2.00D of the
SmartPass software. Version 2.00D software will execute on all
SmartPass models if a D Decoder logic board is installed. Refer to the
READ.ME file on the software diskette that is distributed to the dealers
for information on the D Decoder. If you do not have a D Decoder, you
should use a previous version of the System Guide for software-related
information for SmartPass.

Note:

It is strongly recommended that you read the READ.ME file on the
SmartPass software diskette before you install or use SmartPass.

Overview

SmartPass is delivered from the factory with specified default settings. These
settings and additional features can be controlled by commands transmitted by the
host. The commands can be transmitted with specialized host software or by
manually entering the commands at the host keyboard if the host is in terminal
emulation mode. Host software is not delivered with SmartPass. SmartPass can also
communicate with ASCII terminals and printers.

In addition to this chapter, Chapter 7 covers the operating modes, Chapter 8 covers
the communication protocols, and Chapter 9 covers the available user commands.

The information in this chapter is arranged in alphabetical order by subject.

Communications Port

SmartPass supports one communications port (MAIN), which can be ordered as
either RS–232 or RS–422. An additional Wiegand interface port can be requested
when ordering SmartPass from the factory. See command 451 in Chapter 9,
“Commands” for more information on the Wiegand interface.

For the RS–232 and RS–422 communications specifications, SmartPass maintains
the following three sets of parameters that affect serial port communications:

•

Port configuration parameters (baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity)

•

Communications protocol (basic, data inquiry, error correcting)

•

Flow control scheme (none, software, hardware)
