Connecting Communications
TransCore offers reader communications through RS–232, RS–422, and Wiegand
interface protocols. This section provides the procedures for connecting the
communications to the junction box and the input and output circuit connections.
Connecting Communications to the Junction Box
SmartPass communications and customer interface signals are supplied from
SmartPass to the host through a multiwire cable, which is an 11-pair pigtail. This
cable is fed through a watertight feed-through located on the back of SmartPass near
the bottom. Refer to the correct wiring table for your interface connection and
connect the appropriate wires from the communications cable to the terminal strip
that is located inside the junction box.
Connecting Input and Output Circuits
SmartPass has two input circuits and two output circuits available. The input circuits
can be used to notify SmartPass of external events and are designed to be connected
to a free of voltage dry contact. Output circuits are single-pole, double-throw relays,
which provide normally closed and normally open dry contacts.
Input Circuits
SmartPass supports two input circuits, input0 and input1. The SmartPass software
monitors the status of the input circuits.
Input0 is the presence detection device line. It controls the RF power. For more
information on RF power, see the following section,
RF Control
. Input0 connects
through the green and red wire pair on the input/output pigtail.
By default, SmartPass expects input0
to close
, called a true presence condition, when
a vehicle is present. This condition is also referred to as a normally open
configuration. However, SmartPass can be configured to expect input0
to open
when
a vehicle is present, a normally closed configuration. The minimum true presence
