Commands
6160 Disable Buffer Control Mode (Factory Default)
Command 6160 is used to disable buffer control mode. Buffer control mode is an
ECP mode that prevents unsolicited (asynchronous) reader transmissions. If buffer
control mode is not active (command 6160), the reader transmits data to the host as
soon as the data is acquired. The host must acknowledge the data according to the
ECP acknowledgment/negative acknowledgment protocol. Refer to command 6161
for more information.

6161 Enable Buffer Control Mode
Command 6161 is used to enable buffer control mode. Buffer control mode is an
ECP option that prevents asynchronous reader transmissions. When buffer control
mode is enabled with command 6161, the reader will transmit only in response to
command 06. The exception to this rule occurs on start-up when the reader transmits
its two-line sign-on message asynchronously.
The host must request data (tag IDs and reports) from the reader using transmit
buffer entry command 06. If the reader receives this command and it has data in its
message buffer, it will transmit the buffered tag ID of highest priority. If no tag IDs
are in the buffer, the next report message will be transmitted. If buffer control mode
is enabled, the reader will not support the ECP acknowledgment and negative
acknowledgment messages. Since all messages are transmitted in response to a host
command, acknowledgment from the host is not required.

6170 Disable Echo Mode
Command 6170 disables the reader’s echo of received host commands. If operating
in basic mode or data inquiry protocol, the reader echoes by default. As the reader
receives a host command, it echoes each character of the command. Once the entire
command has been received and processed, the reader will transmit its response. If
echoing is disabled with command 6170, the reader will not echo the command but
will only transmit its response. The
reader never echoes with ECP or download
mode operation.
