___________________ LCQ Deca XP Plus Hardware Manual ________________

The quadrupole and octapole are separated by the interoctapole lens. The 
interoctapole lens assists in the focusing and gating of ions. The interoctapole 
lens also serves as a baffle between the quadrupole region and the analyzer 
region of the vacuum manifold. The XP Plus tune procedure optimizes the 
potentials that are applied to the quadrupole, octapole, and interoctapole lens 
to maximize the ion current to the mass analyzer. During ion transmission, a 
potential of typically between -20 and +20 V is applied to the interoctapole 
lens. The potential is negative for positive ions and positive for negative ions. 
During mass analysis, the potential is +130 V for positive ions and -130 V for 
negative ions.
