Updating Library and Tape Drive Firmware
If you are using the web client to complete the process, select
View I/E Stations
to verify that the
scratch tape is in the top slot of the I/E station. (Selecting
View I/E Stations
opens the
Library
Configuration Report
. See
Viewing the Library Configuration
on page 69 for more information on this
report.)

Select
Apply
.
A message notifies you when the operation is complete. The library returns the FUP tape to the topmost
I/E station slot.
9
Remove the FUP tape from the I/E station.
The paths to open the appropriate screens are as follows:
•
From the web client, select
Tools > Drive Operations
.
•
From the operator panel, select
Tools > Drive Management
.
For more detailed, step-by-step instructions, see your library's online Help. To access the online Help
system, click the
Help
icon at the top right of the web client or operator panel user interface.
Using a FUP Tape to Update Tape Drive Firmware
You can update tape drive firmware using a FUP tape. A FUP tape contains a specific version of tape drive
firmware and is used to transfer the firmware to one or more tape drives within the library. Update firmware
on all of the drives in the library at the same time to make sure that all of the drives are at the same firmware
level. Having different levels of drive firmware in the library is not recommended.
The Tandberg Data Support website at www.tandberg.com provides information that can help you to verify
that the library is running the appropriate level of tape drive firmware, compatible with the tape drive type.
You cannot use a SCSI FUP tape to update tape drive firmware on a FC tape drive and vice versa. Each
tape drive interface type requires unique firmware. See
Creating a FUP Tape
on page 75 for more
information on FUP tapes and how to create them.
If the affected partition is online, it will be taken offline before the firmware update operation is performed,
and brought back online after it is completed. You will be asked to confirm that you want to take the partition
offline.
The entire process of updating tape drive firmware with a FUP tape can be performed using the operator
panel. If you choose to perform the operation using the web client, be aware that part of the process must
be performed on the operator panel and that you will need access to the physical library.
Note
Do not attempt to open the I/E station door during this operation. If you open
the I/E station, the FUP tape erasure operation will fail.
Note
If a
Failure
message appears, the operation did not complete successfully.
Follow instructions listed on the screen to resolve any issues that occurred
during the operation.
CAUTION
Before you update tape drive firmware, make sure that cartridges are
not loaded in any tape drives. If cartridges are loaded in tape drives
during the update process, the library loses knowledge of the
cartridges' storage slot location, resulting in library and host
application inventory issues.
