Automatically Creating Partitions
At any time after the initial configuration of the library, administrative users can add to the number of existing
partitions by using the automatic partitioning process. Automatic partitioning assigns available library
resources proportionately among the partitions, grouping tape drives according to their interface type
(FC or SCSI).
The library must contain at least one unassigned tape drive and one unassigned slot to automatically create
a partition. If no unallocated tape drives or slots exist, you must modify or delete one or more partitions to
free up resources. For more information, see
Modifying Partitions on page 36 and Deleting Partitions on
page 37.
The maximum number of partitions that you can create is equal to the number of drives in the library. On
the
Automatically Create Partitions screen, you can select the number of partitions to create, from a
minimum of one to a maximum that equals the number of tape drives in your library.
If your library contains both FC and SCSI tape drives, you must select at least two partitions on the
Automatically Create Partitions screen. The library does not support mixing FC and SCSI tape drive
interfaces within the same partition. When you select two or more partitions, the library automatically groups
the FC tape drives and SCSI tape drives and assigns them to different partitions.
To manually create partitions, use the web client. See Manually Creating Partitions on page 35.
The paths to open the appropriate screens are as follows:
• From the web client, select Setup > Partitions .
• From the operator panel, select Setup > Create Partitions .
Manually Creating Partitions
Using the web client, administrative users can manually create additional partitions any time after the initial
configuration of the library. The maximum number of partitions that can be created is equal to the number
of drives in the library.
The library must contain at least one unassigned tape drive and slot to create a partition. If no tape drives
or slots are available, you must modify or delete an existing partition to free up resources. For more
information, see
Modifying Partitions on page 36 and Deleting Partitions on page 37.
The library does not support mixing FC and SCSI tape drives in one partition. If your library contains both
FC and SCSI tape drives, you need to create more than one partition so that you can assign the FC and
SCSI tape drives to different partitions.
CAUTION
Before permanently removing an expansion module from your library,
you need to perform a set of configuration operations that includes
deleting all partitions. See
Deleting Partitions on page 37 and
Removing 9U Expansion Modules From an Existing Library on page
107.
Note
This operation cannot be performed concurrently by multiple administrative
users logged in from different locations. You can access the screen, but you
cannot apply changes while another administrative user is performing the same
operation.
