3-32     ENGINE

• Insert the valve, with its stem coated with molybdenum oil

solution all around and along the full stem length without any
break.

MOLYBDENUM OIL SOLUTION

• Install each valve spring with the small-pitch portion 

A

 facing

cylinder head.

 Small-pitch portion

 Large-pitch portion

C

 UPWARD

 Paint

• Compress the valve spring using the special tools.

• Install the cotter halves

NOTE:
To facilitate assembly, apply a little grease to the valve cotter
when fitting into the valve stem groove.

• Fit the new gasket

 to each oil gallery plug

• Tighten the oil gallery plugs

 to the specified torque.

Oil gallery plug (Cylinder head): 

10 N·m (1.0 kgf-m, 7.0 lbf-ft)

When inserting the valve, take care not to damage the
lip of the oil seal.

Compressing of the valve spring must be limited to
the extent only necessary to prevent the spring from
fatigue.

Check that the rounded lip

 of the cotter is securely fit-

ted in the groove
