6.9 ADJUSTING AND CHECKING SENSORS (Cont’d)
5.
Relocate the media so that the I-Mark is oriented over the sensor directly.
Note:
To stabilize the sensor level, make sure the print head assembly is locked and the media is threaded cor-
rectly.
6.
Check the sensor level and make sure the difference between the low level (without I-Mark) and the high
level (I-Mark portion) is
+0.9V
or more. If the level difference is less than + 0.9V, retry
step 3 and 4
, and
adjust
VR5
to set the level difference to a maximum value.
7.
Press the /
arrow
buttons to switch to SLICE LEVEL adjustment screen. Press the
/ arrow
buttons
to adjust the slice level.
Setting the slice level to
0.0V
enables automatic setting. Set slice level to the result of (High Voltage Level
+ Low Voltage Level) / 2. Individual results may vary.
The slice level can be set within the range of
0.0V
to
3.2V
. Save changes by pressing the
FEED
button.
8.
If having difficulties adjusting the sensor level properly, clean the sensor portion and check the connector
connection. If the problem persists, replace the sensor.
6.9.2 Gap/ Center hole Sensor Sensitivity Adjustment
This sensor adjustment regulates penetrating ability for media referencing. Penetration modification is
performed via a potentiometer that is part of the potentiometer complex integrated to the main circuit board.
To establish penetration levels, upper and lower voltage levels must be set and the difference between the
two voltage levels should be maximized for optimum performance.
For proper performance, the sensor must have a voltage difference greater than
+1.0V
between high and low.
If performing the following procedure does not result in acceptable voltage levels, clean the window over the
sensor’s eye. If this fails, the sensor or circuit board may require replacement.
These adjustment activities can be simply done in
SERVICE MODE
with the voltage measurement shown on
the LCD screen of the printer. The voltage measurement can also be taken from
CHK
connector with the use
of a multimeter.
To calibrate the Gap/ Center hole sensor level with the Operator Panel
Note:
This calibration is only for fine tuning. The adjustment may not have any significant value changes,
depending on the media used. In this case, adjust the sensor level by the
VR
potentiometer on the
Main PCB
(CONT)
.
1.
Enter to SENSOR LEVEL setting screen with GAP/CH selected.
Table of normal performance values:
Low level (without I-mark):
+0.5V or below
High level (I-mark position) - Low level (without I-mark):
+0.9V or above
