The Windows Tutorial provided with Microsoft Windows
also shows you the basics of working with Windows and
a mouse. To run the tutorial on your ID-4000 computer,
see “Running the Microsoft Windows Tutorial” in
Chapter 2 of
Microsoft Windows User’s Guide after you
have powered up the system as described on page 3-4.
Icon buttons
Many of the commands you use with the ID-4000 system
are executed by choosing icon buttons instead of
buttons with text printed on them. Icon buttons are
on-screen buttons with small pictures representing their
function.
See the glossary at the end of this guide to identify an
icon button’s function. You can also use the mouse to
position the pointer on the button. (Do
not click the
mouse.) When the pointer is on the button, the name
and description of the button appear on a line in the
upper part of the window.
As with other Windows command buttons, you can
choose an icon button to execute a command with any
of these methods:
•
Place the mouse pointer on the button, then click (press
and release) the left mouse button.
•
Press and hold the ALT key, then press the RIGHT
ARROW or LEFT ARROW key until the desired button is
highlighted. While still holding ALT, press the ENTER key.
•
Use the appropriate shortcut-key combination described
in the following section. (Not all icon buttons have
shortcut keys.)
