key Allows the user certain access privileges to the
ID-4000. A user can have one or more keys assigned to
their account.
list box A box that contains two or more choices. To
choose an item from a list box, you either double-click
the item, or click on the item to highlight it and then
press ENTER. If a list box contains more choices than
you can see, you use the scroll bar to scroll up and down
through the choices.
lock Represents a requirement for access to certain
functionality of the ID-4000. In order to access a locked
area, you must have the proper key assigned to your
user account.
logical operator In advanced searches, you use the
logical operators AND, OR, and NOT to separate two or
more expressions. You can combine expressions or nest
them within parentheses (). The operator AND
separating two expressions means both expressions
must be true to retrieve the record. The operator OR
means either of the expressions can be true to retrieve
the record. The operator NOT means the expression
cannot be true to retrieve the record.
magnetic stripe An iron-oxide strip, usually on a badge,
magnetically encoded with data such as an identification
number or access code. Magnetic stripes can be read by
magnetic stripe readers for fast and accurate data entry,
access control and other purposes.
magnetic stripe encoder An output device for
recording data on a magnetic stripe. Many magnetic
stripe encoders also have the ability to read the data on
magnetic stripes.
magnetic stripe reader A device for reading the data
encoded on a magnetic stripe.
menu A name displayed in a window’s menu bar, such
as File or Help. When you point to the menu name and
click the left mouse button, a drop-down list appears
with all the commands related to that particular menu.
