Setting the PQLS function
PQLS (P r ecision Qua r tz Lock System) is a digital audio
signal t r ansfe r cont r ol technology using the
Control
with
HDMI function. It offe r s highe r -quality audio playback by
cont r olling audio signals f r om the r eceive r to a PQLS
compatible playe r , etc. This enables r emoving jitte r that
has a negative effect on the quality of the sound and is
gene
r ated upon t r ansmission.
• SC-LX83 only: On playe r s compatible with PQLS Bit-
st r eam, PQLS always wo r ks fo r all sou r ces.
• On playe r s compatible with PQLS Multi Su rr ound,
PQLS wo r ks fo r all sou r ces. Set the playe r ’s audio
output to Linea r PCM.
• On playe r s compatible with PQLS 2 ch Audio, PQLS
only wo r ks when playing CDs.

This function is activated when
Control
is set to
ON
.

• Set the remote control to the receiver operation
mode, then press PQLS to select the PQLS setting.
The setting is displayed on the f r ont panel display.
• PQLS AUTO – PQLS is enabled. A p r ecision qua r tz
cont r olle r in this r eceive r eliminates disto r tion
caused by timing e rr o r s (jitte r ), giving you the best
possible digital-to-analog conve r sion when you use
the HDMI inte r face. This is valid as an HDMI function
fo r PQLS-compatible playe r s.

– PQLS is disabled.
Cautions on the Control with HDMI
function
• Connect the TV di r ectly to this r eceive r . Inte rr upting a
di r ect connection with othe r amps o r an AV conve r te r
(such as an HDMI switch) can cause ope r ational
e rr o r s.
• Only connect components (Blu- r ay disc playe r , etc.)
you intend to use as a sou r ce to the HDMI input of
this r eceive r . Inte rr upting a di r ect connection with
othe r amps o r an AV conve r te r (such as an HDMI

• When Control is set to ON , HDMI Input in

on page 45 is automatically set to OFF .

r eceive r ’s powe r is in the standby mode, it is possible
to output the audio and video signals f r om a playe r
via HDMI to the TV without p r oducing sound f r om the
r eceive r , but only when a
Control
with HDMI-
compatible component (Blu- r ay disc playe r , etc.) and
compatible TV a r e connected. In this case, the
r eceive r ’s powe r tu r ns on and the powe r and
HDMI
indicato r s light.
