Speaker System setting: ZONE 2
With these connections you can simultaneously enjoy
5.1-channel su
rr ound sound in the main zone with ste r eo
playback on anothe r component in ZONE 2. (The
selection of input devices is limited.)
Important
• The Speaker System setting must be made if you
use any of the connections shown above othe r than
[A] (see
Speaker system setting
on page 110).
• Sound does not come th r ough simultaneously f r om
the f r ont height, f r ont wide, speake r B and su rr ound
back speake r s. Output speake r s a r e diffe r ent
depending on the input signal o r listening mode.
Other speaker connections
• You r favo r ite speake r connections can be selected
even if you have fewe r than 5.1 speake r s (except f r ont
left/ r ight speake r s).
• When not connecting a subwoofe r , connect speake r s
with low f r equency r ep r oduction capabilities to the
f r ont channel. (The subwoofe r ’s low f r equency
component is played f r om the f r ont speake r s, so the
speake r s could be damaged.)
•
After connecting, be sure to conduct the Full Auto
MCACC (speaker environment setting) procedure.

Placing the speakers
Refe r to the cha r t below fo r placement of the speake r s
you intend to connect.
• Place the su rr ound speake r s at 120º f r om the cente r .
If you, (1) use the su rr ound back speake r , and, (2)
don’t use the f r ont height speake r s / f r ont wide
speake r s, we r ecommend placing the su rr ound
speake r r ight beside you.
• If you intend to connect only one su rr ound back
speake r , place it di r ectly behind you.
• Place the left and r ight f r ont height speake r s at least
one mete r di r ectly above the left and r ight f r ont
speake r s.
THX speaker system setup
If you a r e using a THX ce r tified subwoofe r , use the THX
INPUT jack on the subwoofe r (if you r subwoofe r has one)
o r switch the filte r position to THX on you r subwoofe r .

Some tips for improving sound quality
Whe r e you put you r speake r s in the r oom has a big effect
on the quality of the sound. The following guidelines
should help you to get the best sound f
r om you r system.
• The subwoofe r can be placed on the floo r . Ideally, the
othe r speake r s should be at about ea r -level when
you’ r e listening to them. Putting the speake r s on the
floo r (except the subwoofe r ), o r mounting them ve r y
high on a wall is not r ecommended.
• Fo r the best ste r eo effect, place the f r ont speake r s 2
m to 3 m apa r t, at equal distance f r om the TV.
• If you’ r e going to place speake r s a r ound you r CRT TV,
use shielded speake r s o r place the speake r s at a
sufficient distance f r om you r CRT TV.
• If you’ r e using a cente r speake r , place the f r ont
speake r s at a wide r angle. If not, place them at a
na rr owe r angle.
