8 REAR SHOCK-ABSORBER
Removal:
In order to remove the rear shock-absorber from the
chassis, proceed as follows:
•
Remove the saddle as described in chapter 4, section
E;
• Disassemble the fuel tank following the procedures
described in chapter 3, section I;
• Remove the side panels as described in chapter 3,
section E;
• Remove the air filter box as described in chapter 8,
section I;
• Unscrew nut “A” and remove screw “B” together with
its washer from the opposite side;
• Unscrew nut “C”, remove nut “D” together with its
washer from the opposite side;
• Unscrew the two screws “E” fastening the oil tank to
the chassis;
• Remove the shock-absorber from the chassis together
with the tank.
Check:
Before disassembling, it is necessary to measure the
spring length when pre-loaded.
The measured value must be restored when reassembling.
Disassembly:
• Loosen the counter ring-nut “F” and the spring
adjustment ring nut “G” using a pin wrench or a specific
tool.
• Remove the spring cup “H” and the spring “I”;
• Visually check the shock-absorber to identify eventual
oil leakages and, in this case, replace the shock-
absorber.
Reassembly:
• Inset the spring into the shock-absorber housing
• Fit the spring cup “H”;
• Tighten the spring ajdustment ring-nut “G” until obtaining
the previously measured length.
• Tighten the counter ring-nut “F” against the adjustment
ring-nut, thereby pre-loading the spring to the standard
measurement of 13 mm.
• Install the shock-absorber onto the chassis and on
the swing arm and lock the fastening screws to the
torque prescribed in the tightening torque table in
chapter 4, section B.
