Oceanside Installation Precautions
• Avoid installing the outdoor unit where it would be directly exposed to ocean winds.
• Install the outdoor unit on the side of the building opposite from direct ocean winds.
• Select a location with good drainage.
• Periodically clean dust or salt particles off of the heat exchanger with water.
PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS
Selecting the Best Location for the Outdoor Unit(s)
The system may take longer to provide heat, or heating performance will be reduced in winter if the outdoor unit is installed:
1. In a narrow, shady location.
2. Near a location that has a lot of ground moisture.
3. In a highly humid environment.
4. In an area in which condensate does not drain properly.
Planning for Snow and Ice, continued.
Tie-Downs and Wind Restraints
The strength of Multi V frames is adequate to be used with field-provided wind restraint tie-downs. The overall tie-down configuration must be
approved by a local professional engineer. Always refer to local code when designing a wind restraint system.

Windbreaker
Additional anti-corrosion treatment may need
to be applied to the outdoor unit at oceanside
locations.
If the outdoor unit must be placed in a
location where it would be subjected to
direct ocean winds, install a concrete wind-
breaker strong enough to block any winds.
Windbreaker height and width should be
more than 150% of the outdoor unit, and be
installed at least 27-1/2 inches away from
the outdoor unit to allow for airflow.
Ocean winds may cause corrosion, particularly on the condenser and evaporator fins, which, in turn could cause product malfunction or inefficient
performance.
Choose an area where run-off from defrost mode will not accumulate and freeze on sidewalks or driveways. Properly install and insulate any drain
hoses to prevent the hose from freezing, cracking, leaking, and damaging the outdoor unit.
