Practical Use of the PR-1000HD —
Managing removable hard disk drives
The PR-1000HD provides tools for managing removable hard disk drives.
Removable hard disk drive management is performed in the Utility window (p. 44).

Checking the status of a removable hard disk
You can use the utility window to check the maximum capacity, free capacity, and powered-on
duration of a removable hard disk drive connected to the PR-1000HD.

Running Scan Disk on a removable hard disk drive
This operation checks for errors on an removable hard disk, and repairs any errors if possible.
1.
Click Selector’s [Utility] button.
The Utility window appears.
2.
Right-click on a removable hard disk drive in the “Drives” list.
3.
Click [Scan Disk].
4.
When the confirmation dialog appears, click Start.
Scan Disk will begin. This operation may require several hours, so be sure to allow plenty of time.
5.
When you’ve finished the operations, press the [Close] button to close the
window.

Optimizing a removable hard disk drive
1.
Click Selector’s [Utility] button.
The Utility window appears.
2.
Right-click on a removable hard disk drive in the “Drives” list.
3.
Click [Defragment].
4.
When the confirmation dialog appears, click Start.
Defragmentation will begin. Depending on the condition of the disk, defragmentation may
require several hours, so be sure to allow plenty of time.
5.
When you’ve finished the operations, press the [Close] button to close the
window.

Formatting a removable hard disk drive
1.
Click Selector’s [Utility] button.
The Utility window appears.
2.
Right-click on a removable hard disk drive in the “Drives” list.
3.
Select [Initialize].
4.
When the confirmation dialog appears, hold down the [Shift] key and click the
[Initialize] button.
5.
When you’ve finished the operations, press the [Close] button to close the
window.
Managing removable hard disk drives
Never turn off the power of the PR-1000HD while performing the
following operations. If you turn off the power at this time, the worst
case may be that the removable hard disk drives could be destroyed.

or the owner’s manual for your
removable hard disk drive unit.

If you use this procedure to
delete a project, the project
and the material used by the
project will be completely
deleted from the removable
hard disk. Before you delete it,
make sure that you really want
to delete the project.
In the confirmation dialog that
appears when you select
[Initialize], you have the option
of selecting “Quick format"; this
will delete only the files from
the removable hard disk drive,
applying a quick format
initialization to the drive.
