Before Using the PR-1000HD

About the Hard Disk Drive

 

The PR-1000HD uses separately available removable hard disk drive units for saving video and 
storing the system. Hard disk drives do have a limited lifetime, and thus are considered a consumable 
item. Depending on how the unit is handled, the hard disk drive may reach the end of its service life 
sooner than expected. Please be sure to observe the following points to prevent loss of your important 
creations.

 

• Back up your projects by using a removable hard disk drive unit (HDD Series).

• As much as possible, stop playback and keep access to the hard disk drive to a minimum 

whenever playback of video images is not required.

• If the unit is moved frequently, save projects to an optional removable hard disk drive unit 

(HDD Series), and transport the unit separately from the PR-1000HD, in the box that it came in 
when purchased.

 

For more information regarding the removable hard disk unit (HDD Series), read “About the 
Removable Hard Disk Drive Units” (p. 121).

Installing and Removing the Rack Mount Fittings

 

When mounting the PR-1000HD in a rack, please pay attention to the following to assure effective 
cooling and avoid vibration.

 

• Install in a location with good air flow.

• Do not obstruct the cooling fan’s exhaust vent on the side of the device.

• Avoid mounting in closed-type racks. Because warm air cannot be exhausted from the rack, 

efficient cooling cannot occur because warm air is taken in.

• When the back of the rack cannot be opened, please install an exhaust fan or vent in the 

upper-rear portion of the rack, where warm air tends to collect.

• When mounting in a moveable case (portable rack), remove the front or back cover of the 

case so the front or back of the PR-1000HD is not blocked.

• Avoid mounting in rigid-mount-type racks. Please use shock-proof-type racks to prevent 

damages of PR-1000HD.

 

Be careful not to pinch fingers when attaching to a rack. Please also read “Placement” in “Important 
Notes” (p. 6) for installation.

 

Cautions regarding removing the rack mount fittings

 

• Use a Phillips screwdriver of a size that matches the screw head (a number 2 Phillips 

screwdriver). If you use the wrong size of screwdriver, you may damage the heads of the 
screws.

• To remove the screws, turn the screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction. To tighten the 

screws, turn the screwdriver in a clockwise direction.

• When removing the rack mount fittings, remove only the specified screws.

 

How to remove the rack mount fittings

 

1.

 

Before removing the rack mount fittings, turn off power to this unit and to all 
connected devices and then unplug the power cord and all connected cables.

 

2.

 

Remove only the screws indicated in the next figure and then remove the rack 
mount fittings. A total of 12 screws on the left and right are removed.

 

3.

 

Replace the screws removed in Step 2 to their original location.

 

* To attach the rack mount fittings, follow the above procedure in reverse. After attaching, check again that 

the fittings are attached correctly.
