H e re are a few tips to get the most from your Turbo 601:
•
W h e n ever possible, keep the Modern Memory Manager turned on.
•
If you are using an accelerated video card, contact the vendor to be sure
that you have the latest softwa re and/or firm wa re that allows the card to
o p e rate in accelerated mode with the PowerPC.
•
U p grade your non-native applications, control panels and extensions to
PowerPC ve rsions as they become ava i l able.
•
As Apple updates the operating system, additional portions of it may
become native. By upgrading, you can increase your perfo rm a n c e .
•
If you have a NuBus SCSI controller card in your Mac, see Chapter 5 for info r-
mation on enabling SCSI Manager 4.3 in the Turbo 601 control panel.
•
Va ry the size of the Apple Disk Cache, located in the Memory contro l
panel, to find an optimal setting for your system. Some hard dri ves and spe-
c i fic applications perfo rm better with the cache set to its minimu m .
•
Keep the number of control panel and system extension files that you have in
the System Folder to a minimum. If you find that you are not using the fe a-
t u res of such a file, turn it off with the Extension Manage r. Not only can
these files cause conflicts with one another, they can also rob the system’s
p e r fo rmance, especially if they are not written in the native PowerPC fo rm a t .
