Driver’s Airbag and Front
Passenger Airbag

The frontal airbags, including the
driver’s airbag and front passenger
airbag, are designed to inflate in
moderate to severe frontal or
near-frontal collisions, protecting the
head and chest of the driver and front
passenger from striking interior
objects such as the steering wheel or
a window.

How Frontal Airbags Work

In the event of a head-on collision
more severe than a certain threshold,
the sensors detect that the vehicle is
slowing down fast and send a signal
to the controller to inflate the frontal
airbags in a very short time.

Meanwhile the seat belt holds the
body of the occupant in place. The
inflated airbag forms an air cushion to
protect your head and chest.

Both frontal airbags inflate at the
same time since they use the same
sensors. However, it is possible for
only one airbag to inflate.

This can occur when the severity of a
collision is at the threshold to inflate
the airbag. In such case, the seat belt
will provide sufficient protection, and
the supplemental protection provided
by the airbag would be minimal.
