Starting and Driving 4-11

After Starting Engine

Exhaust system:

listen for leak noise

in the exhaust system. If a leak is
identified, you must arrange a repair
immediately. (See “Engine Exhaust
Warning” in Chapter 3.)

Oil level:

stop the vehicle on level

ground, turn off the engine and
measure the oil level with a dipstick.

In Driving

Instruments:

make sure the

speedometer and other meters are
working normally when you are
driving the vehicle.

Brake system:

apply the brake under

safe traffic conditions, and make sure
the vehicle will not pull to the left or
right side.

Other abnormalities:

check whether

there is any other loose or leaking
part. Listen for abnormal noise.

If no abnormality is found out, you can
enjoy your driving now.

Driving Tips in Various
Conditions

y

Always slow down in gusty

crosswinds. This will allow you
much better control.

y

Drive slowly onto curbs and, if

possible, at a right angle. Avoid
driving onto high, sharp-edged
objects and other road hazards.
Failure to do so can lead to severe
tire damage such as a tire burst.

y

Drive slowly when passing over

bumps or traveling on a bumpy
road. Otherwise, the impact could
cause severe damage to the tires
and/or wheels.

y

When parking on a hill, turn the

front wheels until they touch the
curb so that the vehicle will not roll.
Apply the parking brake, and set
the transmission in “P”. If
necessary, place wheel wedges
behind the rear tires.

y

The brake may get wet after

washing the vehicle or driving
through water. To check whether
the brake is wet, make sure the
area around the vehicle is safe
and slightly press down the brake
pedal. If you feel the braking force
is abnormal, the brake may be wet.
To dry them, drive the vehicle
cautiously while lightly pressing
the brake pedal with the parking
brake applied. If the brake still
cannot work normally, stop the
vehicle at a safe place and contact
a BYD service station for help.

After driving in sand, mud, water or

snow, immediately check whether
the brake system is working
normally.
