SRS Airbag Overview
As part of Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS), airbag is designed to
work with the seat belt to help protect
the driver and passengers from upper
body injuries in head-on collisions of a
certain severity.
Airbags can provide maximum
protection only when it works together
with the whole passive protection
system. All occupants should always
properly wear their seat belts. For the
safety of both you and your family
members, pay close attention to
Caution
and
Notice
information in
the section.
CAUTION
y
All occupants should always
properly wear seat belts in
driving!
y
Keep your body in an upright
position to get maximum
protection from the seat belt and
airbag system.
y
Rear seats are safer for children.
y
Do not disassemble the airbag
system by yourself.
Airbag Triggering Conditions
The airbag is designed to activate
when a head-on collision reaches a
certain severity; and it may also be
triggered in some special collisions.
In case of minor head-on collision, or
side collision, rear collision or roll-over
accidents, the airbag won’t be
triggered. Under the above conditions,
the seat belts can provide protection
to the occupants.
The decisive factor for triggering
airbag system is the deceleration
curve detected by electronic control
unit (ECU) during the collision. If the
detected deceleration rate is lower
than the reference value preset in
ECU, the airbag won’t be triggered
even though the vehicle is severely
damaged in the accident.
