CAUSE

SOLUTION

AC input line outside operating limits

Verify correct AC input voltage is applied.

AC input phase missing

Check the AC input line to make sure all
three phases are present.

Sense connection Fault

Check for reversed polarity sense or
shorted sense connections. If the sense
wires have been reversed and the output
turned on, damage may have occurred to
the sense board. Contact service if the unit
no longer functions with proper sense
connections restored.

8.2.6

Can’t Program on GPIB or RS232

If the power supply does not respond to RS232C or GPIB programming, the following items may be
at fault:

CAUSE

SOLUTION

The power supply unit address is
incorrect.

Update address. See section 9.4

The RS232C interface has been used and
the DC supply has not been powered
down since.

Note that on the XDS Series DC Supply,
only one interface can be active at one
time. If the RS232C interface is used, the
GPIB interface is automatically disabled
until the power is cycled.
Also check the RS232C/GPIB selection
switch setting on the address DIP switch.
See section 9.4.

No terminator is sent with each command.

The XDS Series expects a LineFeed (LF
or Hex 0A) as a message terminator after
each command string.

GPIB or RS232 cable is loose at power
supply rear panel.

Check connection, tighten jackscrews.

RS232 has failed.

Incorrect cable is used. Cable must be
straight through 9 pin D to 9 pin D to PC
RS232C port.
Check correct baud rate setting in
application program if it is user controlled.
DC Supply interface is fixed at 19200
baud, 8 bits, 1 start, 1 stop bit.

GPIB Assembly has failed.

Replace the GPIB Assembly.
