SCRUB BRUSH SYSTEM

See Figure 6.  Remove the (4) “G” screws and, using a soft hammer, tap downward on coupler “F” to
remove the shaft assembly from the gear case.

Look through the shaft opening in the bottom of the gear case and make sure that the horizontal worm
shaft is not damaged.  If damage is evident, follow instructions in 

Worm Shaft Replacement

 section.

Remove the plastic shims from plate “H” or case “I”.  Scrape all gasket sealer from case “I”.

Trial fit the new shaft assembly in the gear box, using new shims (provided) the same thickness as the
old shims.  Pink shims are .015 inch, blue shims are .005 inch and red shims are .002 inch.

Tighten the “G” bolts securely and check the end play in the brush shaft, using a dial indicator.  Proper
end play is .001 - .002 inch.  Add shims (to increase end play) or remove shims (to decrease end play) as
required.

Note:  When properly shimmed, you should feel little or no end play with your bare hands.  However, you
should be able to feel a small amount of backlash when turning the shaft.  No backlash indicates that there is
too much crush on the bearings.  Add shims until a slight amount of backlash can be felt.

When the proper end play and backlash have been obtained, apply gasket cement to plate “H” and case
“I”, install the new shaft and tighten the bolts securely.

Follow steps 1 - 4 in reverse order to reassemble.

Refill gear case with 140W gear lube.  Maximum oil level is 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) from the top of the gear
case.
