9-12 – Transient Balance
Chapter 9
Revision 2.10, Apr 2020
9.1.4.5.
Use the [
] key to move to the “
Add/Remove
” field. The possible selections are
“Add/Remove” which allows you to 1) add and remove weights to implement a
balance solution, 2) Free Form, which allows you to add, remove and even reassign
weights as necessary to implement a balance solution, 3) Remove then Add, which
requires that the previously installed weights be removed completely before installing
a new set of weights to implement a balance solution and 4) Add Only, which dictates
that no weights be removed, only added to implement a balance solution. It should be
noted that unless you are very well versed in the balance calculations and weight
placements for the engine you are balancing, the FREE FORM option should not be
used.
9.1.4.6.
Use the [
] key to move to the “
Name
” field. Use the keypad to enter a name or part
number to identify each weight in the class weight set. Remember to define a single,
no value weight as NULL or NO WT.
9.1.4.7.
Use the [
] key to move to the “
Wt
” (weight) field. This field defines the exact
weight of the individual class weights in the adjacent “Name” field. The unit of
measure is that which you defined in paragraph 9.1.1.11 above. Typically, the first
entry in this table will be a NULL or NO WT weight. A Null weight is one that may
be used to occupy a position when an actual balance weight is not required. It may
also have a weight value of 0. Normally, if this weight is required to occupy each
location not containing a trim balance weight, its weight value should be 0.
9.1.4.8.
Use the [
] key to move to the “
Span
” field. This field defines the number of
positions or weight mounting locations that will be occupied by this class weight.
9.1.4.9.
Complete a Name, Wt, and Span field for each of the available fields until the chart is
filled. If you find that you have specified too few or too many class weights, use the
[
] key to place the cursor in the “Num Wts:” field and adjust the number
accordingly. The number of available fields will be changed per this input. If you
have specified more than one class weight set for this setup in paragraph 9.1.1.9
above, another Define Class weight screen will be displayed, such as the two screens
below, when you press [OK] to store the current screen and continue. Repeat
paragraphs 9.1.4.1 through 9.1.4.9 for each additional class weight set. If you have
specified only one class weight set for this setup, press [OK] and go to paragraph
9.1.5.
