Chapter 23
Revision 4.01, Apr 2020
The battery is a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack with protection circuit for detecting
conditions of overcharge, over-discharge, overtemperature, and overcurrent. This “smart” battery
continually monitors its condition of voltage, current, temperature, and other parameters for
safety and to maximum efficiency. To obtain information about the battery, including the health
of the battery, select the “Battery Information” option from the “Analyzer Information” menu
(See Chapter 22 for a more detailed description).
NOTE
If the battery gets too hot or the capacity too low, the analyzer may shut down without warning.
Under typical usage conditions, using two channels, an optical tachometer and acquiring data for
25% of the time, the analyzer should maintain an operational charge for approximately 8 hours.
To maximize battery life, follow these tips:
Enable and set the Screen Saver timeout to five minutes or less
Set Enable Power-off timeout to Yes
Keep analyzer out of direct sunlight
Adjust the screen brightness to a lower level
The analyzer is continually monitoring and displaying the battery capacity. If the level is low, the
battery charge indicator turns red to indicate the battery should be charged before starting
another run. When starting or resuming a job when the battery is 10% or below, the analyzer will
issue a warning about low capacity. If the level drops to a critical level, the analyzer will turn
itself off to prevent loss of data and to protect the battery.
The Lithium-ion battery pack contained in the ACES Viper II and Cobra II is classified under
UN 3480 and has less than 8g equivalent lithium content. This pack has been found to comply
with tests listed in the United Nations Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part 38.3. As a result, the
analyzer can be shipped unrestricted internationally by any means.
Recommendations to safe use of the battery pack in the Analyzer.
Check-in luggage: The ACES Viper II and Cobra II are acceptable for
check-in luggage because the battery pack is permanently installed in the
product.
Carry-on luggage: The ACES Viper II and Cobra II are acceptable for
carry-on luggage.
Always consult national/local guidelines that are applicable for shipment by
mail or other transporters.
