Safety and First Aid
Accom equipment is designed to the highest standards of quality and reliability. However, no
matter how these systems are designed, operators and maintenance personnel can be exposed
to electrical shock hazard when protective covers are removed for maintenance or the
installation of options. With this caution in mind, each operator and engineer must observe all
safety regulations, and have a clear understanding of first aid procedures related to electrical
hazards.
The following safety practices must be followed precisely whenever engineering or
maintenance work is performed on the system:
f
Do not attempt to adjust circuit or wiring assemblies with power on.
f
Avoid placing body parts in series between ground and the system’s electrical circuit
points.
f
To prevent burns, avoid contact with hot or overheated components.
f
Always remember that many semiconductor and solid-state circuit cases can carry
high voltages.
f
Do not assume that electrical shock danger is removed when system power is turned
off. Charged capacitors can retain dangerous voltages long after power is turned off.
f
Do not take chances with electrical components. As a priority, all equipment should
be operated and maintained by qualified personnel.
f
If someone seems unable to free himself or herself while receiving an electric shock,
turn system power off before giving aid. Muscle spasm or unconsciousness can make
a victim unable to free himself or herself.

■
Do not touch a shock victim or their clothing before power is disconnected,
otherwise, you can also become a shock victim. If electric power can not
be turned off immediately, quickly and carefully loop a length of dry
nonconducting material (such as rope, insulating material, a towel, or
clothing) around the victim and pull the person free of the power. It is
imperative that you avoid touching the person or their clothing until they
are free of the electric power hazard. At this point, immediately start
appropriate first aid.

Danger of explosion if battery is replaced with incorrect type. Replace any
batteries only with the same type recommended by the manufacturer.
Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
