illuminates the symbol. While Ping-Pong is active, the disk
plays repeatedly in a forward and backward direction between the
marked IN and OUT timecode points.
The Record Mode button selects the recording mode of operation.
By default, this function is turned OFF, and thus all three indicator
LEDs are extinguished. While this function is OFF, any recording
operations that are performed are standard recordings, and simply
adhere to the recording parameters set by the user. During
standard record operations, the video, key & audio viewed and
heard at the output of Attaché are the Bypass (also known as EE)
signals present at the video, key & audio inputs fed into the
machine. No off-disk playback is attained during standard record
operation.

Pressing the “Record Mode” button by itself will not change the recording
mode, as a safety precaution. You must first press and hold down the
Shift button before pressing the

button to actually change
the recording mode, to prevent accidental changes to the recording mode.
Pressing the Record Mode button without first pressing and
holding down the button will display the following message in
the numeric readout display on the Attaché control panel (and on
the status monitor output overlay):
Press&Hold:SHIFT
This message reminds you of the safety mechanism.
While the button is held down, the first press of the Record
Mode button selects PreRead. This illuminates the PreRead
LED, and turns on the PreRead recording function. The PreRead
operation by default is with the destructive (minimum) setting
(immediate write after read). Within the Setup Record menu, you
