MON
Matrix
The
Matrix
group defines a standard by which a network device can make
available information on conversations between pairs of network devices.
Information gathered against each conversation includes:
■
transmitted and received packets
■
transmitted and received bytes
■
errors
The information in the
Matrix
group allows you to monitor the activity
between any two devices on the network. It augments the
Host
view,
allowing you to drill down to identify which other devices any particularly
active host on the network is talking to.
Each
RMON
group contains two types of information:
■
a table or tables containing the raw information itself, indexed by the
particular interface or VLAN to which it applies.
■
a control table, allowing a management application to set up new
data collections, and to control how data is gathered.
Network devices normally have a number of tables configured by default
on each interface, so that a management station such as 3Com Network
Director can immediately see basic network information without having
to pre-configure the device.
For example, it is normal for network devices to create a
Statistics
table
and at least one
History
table on each VLAN and/or physical interface.
HC-RMON
An extension to the RMON standard allows 64-bit support for high speed
gigabit and 10 gigabit interfaces. This is known as High Capacity RMON
(HC-RMON).
