Appendix E PostScript 3 Kit
Common Menu settings
Make the following settings from the printer control panel according to the operating
environment you are in. In the "Port Setting" menu, specify the type of the printer interface
connected to the host device for using the PostScript language as well as the necessary
requirements for the communication. In the "Maintenance Mode" menu, change the
memory capacity for using the PostScript environment.
Port Setting
For Parallel, Serial, lpd/PD, NetWare, EtherTalk
• PDL Mode
Specify PostScript 3 for the PDL mode.
In the case of EtherTalk, PostScript 3 is the default.
For Parallel, Serial
• Adobe Protocol
The PostScript protocol to be selected when in parallel or serial connection.
Options available are:
• Standard: Selected when the protocol is in the ASCII format (default).
• Binary:
Selected when the protocol is in the binary format.
Depending on the data, the printing speed might be faster than when
selecting Standard.
• TBCP:
Selected when the protocol exists in both ASCII and binary formats
and to switch between them by the specific control code.
• Set according to the data format output from the host device driver.
• For general use, select the default value, Standard.
• When the print mode of the parallel or serial interface is other than
PostScript 3, the setting here becomes invalid.
Maintenance Mode
For Memory Change
• PS Memory
To set the memory capacity for using the PostScript language. The printing speed
may become faster by increasing the memory capacity for the PostScript software.
The value ranges from 2 to 16 MB with 0.25 MB per unit. However, the maximum
value varies according to the free memory capacity.
Print Utility
For PS Font List
To print the list of PostScript fonts available in the printer.
