4.6. Opening the cooker
At the end of the cooking time, remove the
pressure cooker from the heat source. The
lid should, in principle, only be opened and
removed from the cooker when the pot is
depressurized, i.e. when the cooking sig-
nal (1) on the handle has completely dis-
appeared (L). The residual pressure safe-
ty device ensures that the cooker can only
be opened when fully depressurized i.e.
when the yellow pressure ring also ceases
to be visible. If the yellow ring remains vis-
ible (M), the residual pressure safety device
has been triggered. To release this, brief-
ly push the slider (7) to the closed position
and then back.
When no more steam is released, gently
shake the cooker. This releases any steam
bubbles that can form with liquid and
pulpy foods in particular and can spray out
when removing the lid. Now turn the lid
handle to the right as described and open
the cooker.
5| Three methods for
reducing the pressure
Warning:
If you have cooked foods that froth or swell
(e.g. pulses, meat broth or grains), you must
not use methods 2 or 3 to depressurize the
cooker. Potatoes cooked in their skins burst if
you use method 2 or 3 to release the steam.
When using the fast steam release via the
slider or when holding under running water,
always keep your hands, head and body away
from any risk of danger. Otherwise you could
scald yourself on the steam that is released.
Method 1
Remove the cooker from the heat source. The
cooking indicator soon falls (1). When it has
fully disappeared in the handle (L), slowly push
the slider to the open position (A). This allows
the remaining steam to be released below the
lid handle. When no more steam is released,
shake the cooker for a short time so that any
steam bubbles that have formed in the food
can be released.
Method 2
For food that has a short cooking time (e.g.
vegetables), slowly push the slider (7) in stages
to the open position (A) until the steam is
released under the lid handle. When you have
moved the slider fully to the open position,
when no more steam is released and the cook-
ing indicator has fallen completely (L), shake
the cooker and open it.
Method 3
If the steam bothers you, simply place the pot
in the sink and allow cold water to run
over the lid (N), until the cooking indicator (1)
in the lid handle has completely disappeared
(L). Shake the cooker for a short time and open
it.
