5.12 Setting the differential feed dial
In this manual, differential feeding refers to the feeding of fabrics at
different speeds when sewing. The setting of the differential feed dogs
depends on the fabric to be sewn and the degree of gathering or
stretching that is desired.
Whether the fabric is stretched or gathered by the differential feed dogs
depends on the feed differential that has been set between the front and
rear feed dogs. This is the so-called differential feed ratio.
Differential feed dial
The differential feed ratio can be set within a range from 1:0.6 to 1:2.0.
The setting is changed by means of the differential feed dial. If no
differential feed is desired, set the dial to the neutral value “N”. The
differential feed ratio is then 1:1.
