3.2.1 Optional Foot Control Operation
NOTE: Refer to included Operator Manual (P150832-639;
behind O
operating instructions.
The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table may be operated
using the optional Foot Control as follows:
1. Connect Foot Control cord to appropriate control
panel socket on Table Column.
2. The Foot Control allows operator to control
HEIGHT, TREND and TILT movements.
3. Press and release any positioning pedal to switch
table control ON. If Hand Control is also attached,
PEDAL ON appears on LCD Display message
window.
NOTE: When using the Hand Control and optional Foot
Control at the same time, the Primary Hand Control has

30 minutes (when unlocked) or 10 hours (when locked)
of inactivity the Foot Control also switches OFF.
4. If Foot Control is unplugged from table, ENSURE
protective cover returns to cover connector
opening.
3.2.2 Backup (Override) Hand Control
NOTE: Refer to included Operator Manual (P150832-639;
behind O
operating instructions.
The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table is equipped with
an Auxiliary Control System which includes a Backup
Hand Control and foot pedal. This system can be actuated
at any time and allows table operation in the event of
primary control malfunction. A pedal (foot pump to
provide hydraulic power) and Override Hand Control
comprise this system. The Hand Control is located on the
patient right side of the table, behind a cover plate and
stored in the Table Base. The foot pedal is also located at
the side of the Table Base. Included functions on Backup
Hand Control are: SLIDE HEAD/FOOT, HEIGHT UP/
DN, BACK UP/DN, LEG UP/DN, KIDNEY UP/DN,
TREND/REVERSE TREND, TILT RIGHT/LEFT, FLOOR
LOCK/UNLOCK and STOP.
NOTE: The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table head
section must be manually adjusted.
UNLOCK and SLIDE functions do not require foot pump
actuation. A green LED on the Backup Hand Control
indicates the system is active.
NOTE: When using the Backup (Auxiliary) Control
System, note the following:
1) For
FLOOR UNLOCK
and
SLIDE HEAD/
FOOT
functions, it is not necessary to pump pedal.
2) Pressing any touch pad on the Backup (Override)
Hand Control deactivates Primary Hand Control.
3) When any key is pressed on Backup Hand Control,
the green LED next to USE WITH FOOT PUMP
should light indicating system is active.
4) The ALS System is NOT active during Backup
Control operation.
5) During Backup Control operation, operation with
Floor Locks disengaged IS
active
within full
articulation limits. Engage Floor Locks before
moving tabletop to prevent unsafe tipping
situations.
6) Reverse Orientation is NOT available in Backup
Control operation. If patient was in reverse
orientation when Auxiliary Control was activated,
Operator must mentally change
TREND
to
REVERSE TREND
,
TILT LEFT
to
TILT RIGHT
,
etc.
Important:
When table is turned OFF, control system
stores orientation status. Before any new positioning is
attempted, ensure table patient configuration is correct as
indicated on Hand Control.
3.3 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
NOTE: Tabletop slide function is controlled electronically
(electric motor driven) and not hydraulically.
Refer to Hydraulic System Schematic W755718-023
(behind
information on hydraulic operation for the STERIS 4085
General Surgical Table.
3.3.1 Principles of Hydraulic Operation
There are 13 hydraulic cylinders in the hydraulic system
which allow for multiple articulations of the table. Left
and right tilt require one cylinder. Trendelenburg and
Reverse Trendelenburg require one cylinder. Leg up and
down requires two cylinders. Column raise and lower
requires one cylinder. Back raise and lower requires two
cylinders. Kidney raise and lower requires two cylinders.
To obtain level compensating, the floor locks require four
hydraulic cylinders.
The STERIS 4085 General Surgical Table is powered by
an electrohydraulic system utilizing a gear pump that is
driven by a 24 Vdc motor. The pump is rated at
