Replace the Drive
The drives used in the nTier700 VTL are mounted on custom drive sleds that provide
the mounting and electrical connections required to use them in a blade. Only install
drives that you purchase from Spectra Logic into your nTier700 VTL. For assistance, see
Contacting Spectra Logic on page 5.
Caution:
Any damage to the Spectra nTier700 VTL caused by failure to
protect it from electrostatic discharge (ESD) voids the
nTier700 VTL’s warranty. To protect the nTier700 VTL drives
from damage:
ƒ
Wear an anti-static wristband, properly grounded, throughout
the procedure. If a wristband is not available, touch a known
grounded surface, such as the unpainted metal chassis. An
anti-static wristband is included with the accessories.
ƒ
Leave the drive in its anti-static bag until you are ready to
install it.
ƒ
Do not place the un-bagged drive on any metal surfaces.
Remove the Malfunctioning Drive from the Blade
Use the following steps to remove a drive from a blade.
1.
If you have not already powered down the drive and extended the blade, do so (see
Power Off the Drive on page 78 and Unlock and Extend the Blade on page 81).
2.
Locate the drive you want to remove. The LED on the sled for drive that is powered
off will be illuminated orange. Figure 5-4 shows the drive numbering and latch
locations for the drives in the blade.
