Unlock and Extend the Blade
The blades of the nTier700 VTL are automatically locked so that only authorized
personnel can pull them out and access the drives. Use the Unlock Blades screen on
the operator panel of any blade to unlock all of the blades at once. When the blades
are unlocked, you can slide a blade out of the nTier700 VTL enclosure to remove a
drive.
Caution:
Unlocking blades makes all blades accessible, not just the one
with the operator panel you used to unlock the blades. Be
careful to slide out the correct blade after unlocking the blades.

If the operator panel buttons are locked, unlock them (see
Unlocking and Locking
Operator Buttons
on page 69).

Using the

button on the operator panel, select the
Enclosure tab (an nTier icon) at the bottom of the display.
The Enclosure Status screen displays. This screen includes
general chassis status information, such as temperature,
drive speed, and overall health.

button on the operator panel to select

The Chassis Status screen displays. This screen shows
more detailed information about the nTier700 VTL chassis
components.

Using the
>
button, move to the Unlock tab to display the
Unlock Blades screen.
5.
Press the
O
button to unlock the blades.
Note:
A solenoid automatically re-locks the blades after 15 seconds.
Make sure that you pull out the blade containing the drive you
want to replace immediately after unlocking the blades.
