Procedure - Remove the Blade
The following procedure describes how to remove the blade from a system. It assumes that
the system is powered. If the system is powered down, you can disregard the blue LED and
skip the power down steps. In that case it is a purely mechanical procedure.
1. Unlatch the handle from the face plate by sliding the latch into the release position and
pull the handle outward. Do not pull the handle fully outward.
The blue LED blinks indicating that the blade power-down process is ongoing. Wait
until the blue LED is illuminated permanently.
NOTE:
If the LED continues to blink, it is possible that the upper layer software has
rejected the blade extraction request.
2. Unfasten the two handle screws.
3. Loosen the correlating screw for slots (1-5), (7-8), and (10-14) found in the rear of the
shelf using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
4. For slots 6 and 9, first remove the correlating RTM. See
Put on an ESD wrist strap.
Connect the strap to the shelf by attaching the front or rear ESD jack.
Damage of Circuits
Electrostatic discharge, incorrect blade installation and blade removal can damage
circuits or shorten its life.
Before touching the blade or electronic components make sure that you are working
in an ESD-safe environment.
Damage of Blade
Incorrect installation of the blade can cause damage to the blade.
Only use handles when installing/removing the blade to avoid damage/deformation
to the face plate and/or PCB.
Data Loss
Removing the blade with the blue LED still blinking causes data loss.
Wait until the blue LED is steadily lit before removing the blade.
