The indirect serial console connector (front of shelf, located on the ADP1440-D) is a 9-pin
micro-D sub-connector. For the default user name and password, contact your SMART EC
sales representative.

for pin assignments.
5.12 Upgrading Firmware
Upgrading firmware on the AXP1440-C07 shelf involves the following components:

IPMC firmware on the two fan tray modules (LFT1440 and UFT1440-D)

IPMC firmware on the two Power Entry Modules (PEMs)

Shelf Manager firmware (including an FPGA image) on the two SAM1620-Ds
5.12.1 Fan Tray IPMC Firmware Upgrade
NOTE: The upgrade process described here uses a script named
upgradeftm
, which is
supplied on shelf managers starting with build 4.1.0-3.
There is a single IPMC firmware image common to the upper and lower fan trays in the
AXP1440-C07. The FTM IPMCs are assigned IPMB addresses 0x56 and 0x58.
Different upgrade image variants are generated as part of the release, but only one file is
required for the normal field upgrade process and the file is
ftm14x0_hpm1fw.img
. When
upgrades are released, SMART EC supplies the current version of this file.
5.12.1.1 Procedure - Upgrade Fan Tray Firmware
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware:
1. Copy the
ftm14x0_hpm1fw.img
file to the
/tmp
directory on the Active shelf manager.
NOTE: The
/tmp
directory on the shelf manager is mounted to RAM and this copy of the
file will be deleted on the next reset of the shelf manager. If you want to save the
file to flash, copy it to the
/var/nvdata
directories on both shelf managers.
2. Execute the following command to upgrade the upper UFT1440-D:
upgradeftm upper /tmp/ftm14x0_hpm1fw.img
3. Repeat the command to upgrade the lower LFT1440:
upgradeftm lower /tmp/ftm14x0_hpm1fw.img
After a successful upgrade, the
upgradeftm
script displays the current firmware level
reported by the device as shown in
Fan Tray Upgrade Sample Output on page 107
