All unused slots must have filler panels installed. Filler panels ensure a consistent airflow
per slot whether or not the neighboring slot contains an AdvancedTCA blade. There are
filler panels sized for the front and for the RTM slots. An unused slot cannot contain a front
filler when an AdvancedTCA RTM is installed. When fillers are used, both the front and
RTM filler must be in place. Filler panels are available from SMART EC.
The blade must be installed into the proper slot type of the shelf, for instance, hub blades
in hub slots, payload blades in blade slots.
6.3.1 Procedure - Install the Blade
The following procedure describes the installation of a blade. It assumes that your system
is powered. If your system is unpowered, you can disregard the blue LED and skip the
power-down steps. In this case it is a purely mechanical installation.
To install the blade into an AXP1440-C07 shelf, proceed as follows.
1. Visually inspect the blade and backplane connectors for damage or bent pins before
attempting to insert the blade. If any connector damage or pin damage in observed,
stop the installation and send the damaged item through proper repair channels.
Damage of Circuits
Electrostatic discharge and incorrect blade installation and removal can damage
circuits or shorten its life.
Before touching the blade or electronic components, make sure that you are
working in an ESD-safe environment.
Damage of Blade
Incorrect installation of the blade can cause damage to the blade.
Only use handles when installing/removing the blade to avoid damage/deformation
to the face plate and/or PCB.
Put on an ESD wrist strap.
Connect the strap to the shelf by attaching the front or rear ESD jack.
If there is a RTM to install, the front blade must be installed and secured before
installing the RTM.
If there is no front blade, the RTM must be removed to install a front blade.
