Shelf Management Module
7.1 Overview
This chapter describes the AdvancedTCA Shelf Management Module, hereafter known as
the SAM1620-D or SAM, which consists of a Shelf Management Controller (ShMC) and a
Shelf Management Mezzanine Module (ShMM-1500R) which installs on the carrier blade.
Two SAM1620-Ds are installed into two dedicated shelf manager slots located at the
bottom-rear of the AXP1440-C07 shelf. The SAM1620-D is hot swappable and the
connectors are accessible through the face plate.
The SAM1620-D supports redundant operation by automatic switchover between two
SAM1620-Ds. When two SAM1620-Ds are present in a shelf, one acts as the Active
module and the other acts as a Standby module. They share signals across the
AdvancedTCA backplane that allow them to coordinate their redundant operations. The
SAM1620-D provides access to the IPMCs for the PEMs and the two fan trays through the
IPMB. The SAM1620-D is based on the Pigeon Point Systems ShMM-1500R and NXP
MPC8343 System on Chip (SOC).
