FRU Installation
6.1
Overview
The following sections help you to start up and maintain the system. This chapter provides
information about how to install and remove the AXP1440-C07 Field Replaceable Units
(FRUs). Procedures address the Rear Transition Module (RTM), AdvancedTCA blades,
Shelf Management Controller (SAM1620-D), Power Entry Modules (PEMs), Fan Tray
Modules (FTMs), and air filters. This chapter also provides information about cable
management.
6.2
RTM-ATCA-F140-D Installation and Removal
The RTM-ATCA-F140-D can be installed into a powered or nonpowered system providing
its front switch blade is powered down. A Zone 3 attachment block designed specifically for
the RTM uses a captive screw on the RTM to securely attach to the front blade for use in
rugged environments.
Install the RTM into a system where the front switch blade is already installed and its
payload is powered down.
NOTICE
The AXP1440-C07 has enhanced shock and vibration characteristics. The rear of the
chassis includes a stiffening backplate, which currently allows for only two RTMs
in the switch slots. Other custom backplates can be arranged as required, allowing
for additional RTMs. For specific details, please contact your local SMART EC sales
representative.

Only install the RTM with the correct front blade.
Installing the RTM with blades not designed for it may damage the RTM and the front
blade.
