information to the LCD and the Debug Port. By setting certain System Debug
Bits,
additional error and status data will be reported to the Debug Port.
The Level 2 Diagnostic Mode Menu enables/disables execution of the Level 2 Power-
on Diagnostics.
• PROM Monitor
The BOB/WCB PROM Monitor initializes and tests CPU resources (initialize satellites,
sniff system configuration, etc.), provides a menu driven interactive interface (via the
Debug Port and LCD/Keypad) to system utilities (baud rate, SCSI Downloader,
application debug), access to Level 2 and disk resident diagnostics, and controls the
application boot sequence. The PROM Monitor also manages NV RAM parameters
and the file system. The file system resides on Page Buffer Drive 0).
Note: The Prom Monitor includes software debug features such as register/memory
poke/peek functions. These features, among others, which are used during software
development, are not used when running diagnostics via the Debug Port, and should be
ignored.
9-2.2 Disk Resident Diagnostics
The two disk resident diagnostics are the Controller Diagnostic (wcb_diag) and the Recorder
Output Module (ropmdiag) Diagnostic. These diagnostics reside on Page Buffer Drive 0.
9-2.2.1 Recorder Controller Diagnostics
The Recorder Controller diagnostic (wcb_diag) is a set of comprehensive tests and debug
tools which verify the operation of the CPU, LCD, LCD interface, Page Buffer Modules
(PBMs), and Front End SCSI Ports. The Recorder Controller diagnostic PROM Monitor -
Provides interface to the diagnostics, manages non-volatile parameters, sniffs system
configuration, interfaces to utilities and boots the main application or other disked based
programs. The "wcb_diag" diagnostic may be accessed through the (serial) debug port
PROM Monitor "]" or the recorder LCD/Keypad Interface.
9-2.2.2 Recorder Output Module (ROPM) Diagnostic
The ROPM diagnostic (ropmdiag) is a set of comprehensive tests and debug tools which
verify the operation of the BOB/WCB Video Subsystem, the recorder motors, and the various
recorder detector and interlock mechanisms. The "ropmdig" diagnostic is accessed through
the (serial) debug port PROM Monitor "]" or the recorder LCD/Keypad Interface.
9-2.3 PantherPro/46 Boot Sequence
The BOB/WCB PROM (EPROM firmware version 1.7) automatically begins the main
application boot sequence after a power-on or a system reset. The instruction register pointer
of the Motorola 68000 points to the first memory location of the EPROM and start sequentially
executing instructions. This EPROM chip contains the operating code the CPU uses to run its
tasks. The CPU has use of 2MB of DRAM and 2KB of NVRAM. The DRAM is used for storing
programs stored on Page Buffer Drive 0 for execution and saving values. The NVRAM is
used to retrieve fixed data.
