Other problems when using the Auto
MCACC Setup
If the r oom envi r onment is not o p timal fo r the
Auto MCACC Setu p (too much backg r ound
noise, echo off the walls, obstacles blocking
the s
p eake r s f r om the mic r o p hone) the final
settings may be inco rr ect. Check fo r household
a pp liances (ai r conditione r , f r idge, fan, etc.),
that may be affecting the envi r onment and
switch them off if necessa r y. If the r e a r e any
inst r uctions showing in the f r ont p anel dis p lay,
p lease follow them.
• Some olde r TVs may inte r fe r e with the
o p e r ation of the mic r o p hone. If this seems
to be ha pp ening, switch off the TV when
doing the Auto MCACC Setu p .
Better sound using Phase Control
This r eceive r ’s Phase Cont r ol featu r e uses
p hase co rr ection measu r es to make su r e you r
sound sou r ce a rr ives at the listening p osition in
p hase, pr eventing unwanted disto r tion and/o r
colo r ing of the sound (see illust r ation below).
Du r ing multichannel p layback, LFE (Low-
F r equency Effects) signals as well as low-
f r equency signals in each channel a r e
assigned to the subwoofe r o r othe r the
subwoofe r and the most a ppr o pr iate s p eake r .
At least in theo r y, howeve r , this ty p e of
pr ocessing involves a g r ou p delay that va r ies
with f r equency, r esulting in p hase disto r tion
whe r e the low-f r equency sound is delayed o r
muffled by the conflict with othe r channels.
With the Phase Cont r ol mode switched on, this
r eceive r can r e pr oduce p owe r ful bass sound
without dete r io r ating the quality of the o r iginal
sound (see illust r ation below).
Phase Cont r ol technology pr ovides cohe r ent
sound r e pr oduction th r ough the use of p hase
matching

fo r an o p timal sound image at you r
listening p osition. The default setting is on and
we r ecommend leaving Phase Cont r ol
switched on fo r all sound sou r ces.
• Press RECEIVER, then press PHASE to
switch on phase correction.

1 Phase matching is a ve r y im p o r tant facto r in achieving pr o p e r sound r e pr oduction. If two wavefo r ms a r e ‘in p hase’, they c r est
and t r ough togethe r , r esulting in inc r eased am p litude, cla r ity and pr esence of the sound signal. If a c r est of a wave meets a
t r ough (as shown in the u pp e r section of the diag r am above) then the sound will be ‘out of p hase’ and an un r eliable sound
image will be pr oduced.
• If you r subwoofe r has a p hase cont r ol switch, set it to the p lus (+) sign (o r 0°). Howeve r , the effect you can actually feel when
PHASE CONTROL
is set to
ON
on this r eceive r de p ends on the ty p e of you r subwoofe r . Set you r subwoofe r to maximize the
effect. It is also r ecommended you t r y changing the o r ientation o r the p lace of you r subwoofe r .
• Set the built-in low p ass filte r switch of you r subwoofe r to OFF. If this cannot be done on you r subwoofe r , set the cutoff
f r equency to a highe r value.
• If the s p eake r distance is not pr o p e r ly set, you may not have a maximized
PHASE CONTROL
effect.
• The
PHASE CONTROL
mode cannot be set to
ON
in the following cases:
– When the
PURE DIRECT
mode is switched on.
– When the
MULTI IN
in p ut is selected.
