Using Stream Direct
Use the St r eam Di r ect modes when you want
to hea r the t r uest p ossible r e pr oduction of a
sou r ce. All unnecessa r y signal pr ocessing is
by p assed.
• While listening to a source, press AUTO/
DIRECT to select Stream Direct mode.

AUTO SURROUND
– See Auto p layback on
p age 33.

DIRECT
– Sou r ces a r e hea r d acco r ding to
the settings made in the Su rr ound Setu p
(s p eake r setting, channel level, s p eake r
distance), as well as with dual mono
settings.

PURE DIRECT
– Analog and PCM sou r ces
a r e hea r d without any digital pr ocessing.

Using the Sound Retriever
When audio data is r emoved du r ing the
com pr ession pr ocess, sound quality often
suffe r s f r om an uneven sound image. The
Sound Ret r ieve r featu r e em p loys new DSP
technology that hel p s b r ing CD quality sound
back to com pr essed 2-channel audio by
r esto r ing sound pr essu r e and smoothing
jagged a r tifacts left ove r afte r com pr ession.

• Press RECEIVER, then press S.RETRIEVER
to switch the sound retriever on or off.
Listening with Acoustic
Calibration EQ
• Default setting:
ON
You can listen to sou r ces using the Acoustic
Calib r ation Equalization set in Automatically
setting u p for surround sound (MCACC) on
p age 8. Refe r to these p ages fo r mo r e on
Acoustic Calib r ation Equalization.
• While listening to a source, press
RECEIVER, then press EQ to switch the
Acoustic Calibration EQ on or off.
The MCACC indicato r on the f r ont p anel lights
when Acoustic Calib r ation EQ is active.

Using surround back channel
processing
• Default setting:
SB CH ON
You can have the r eceive r automatically use 6.1
o r 7.1 decoding fo r 6.1 encoded sou r ces (fo r
exam p le, Dolby Digital EX o r DTS-ES), o r you
can choose to always use 6.1 o r 7.1 decoding
(fo r exam p le, with 5.1 encoded mate r ial). With
5.1 encoded sou r ces, a su rr ound back channel
will be gene r ated, but the mate r ial may sound
bette r in the 5.1 fo r mat fo r which it was
o r iginally encoded (in which case, you can
sim p ly switch su rr ound back channel
pr ocessing off).
