Using the Firmware Update Tool (SoP Explorer)
SoP (Software Package) Explorer is a programme for performing software updates of the
POWER CORE
system
components by transferring files from a service computer. Within a networked installation, this allows you to
manage software updates to multiple systems from any network access point!
It can also be used reset the system date and time.
The same programme is used to update
ruby
,
POWER CORE
,
sapphire/Nova17
,
sapphire compact
,
crystal
and
Nova29
systems. The descriptions used in this section include examples of
zirkon
and
crystal
systems, but all systems operate in a similar manner.
Warning
Please read and observe
ALL
of the following notes when using SoP Explorer to perform software updates:
·
NEVER
update software while the system is on-air or in operation! During the update process, the
system will reset several times causing interruption to operation and audio.
·
With each software update,
ALWAYS
observe the release notes.
·
For networked systems we strongly recommend that you disconnect the control room from the
Ethernet network so as to avoid interruptions to other studios or areas. Connect your service
computer directly to the control system using a crossed network cable.
·
Don’t rush when performing software updates! Take your time and follow the instructions step by
step. Missing a step may lead to failure of the system.
·
In particular you should perform updates in the following order: System, IOs (if applicable), Surface (if
applicable).
·
ALWAYS
test the system after performing updates.
Installing SoP Explorer
SoP Explorer is installed automatically, with the ON-AIR Designer, when you run the ON-AIR Designer installer. If
you used a standard install, you can start the programme from
START -> Program Files -> OnAirDesigner ->
SOP Explorer
.
Your computer must meet the same system requirements as the ON-AIR Designer software.
As part of the installation process a new set of system software files are also copied onto your computer’s hard
disk (C:\Program Files\OnAirDesigner). By running SoP Explorer you can review the current software status of all
system components on your network. If updates are required, you can then transfer the new files from your
computer to the component via the Ethernet network.
Connecting to the System
Connect your service computer either directly to the
ETHERNET 1
port (recommended), or via a Network Switch,
and configure the TCP/IP settings for your service computer’s Network Interface card. See
If you having problems establishing a network connection please see the
