Connecting Rod Bearing Selection
Inspect the con necting rod bea ring and cra nkpin oil clea r­
ance (See section 1 4 of the Common Service Manual).
Record the con necti ng rod I . D. code n u m ber

or
measu re the I.D. with the bea ring cap insta l led without
bearing insert.
If you replace the cra n kshaft, record the co rrespon d i ng
crankpin O.D. code n u m ber (A, B or C).
If you a re reusing the cra n kshaft, measu re the cra n kpin
O.D. with a m icrometer.
NOTE

N u m bers (A, B o r C) o n the cra n k we i g ht a re the
codes for the cra n k pin O.D.s.
Cross-reference the crankpin and rod codes to determine
the replacement bearing color.
NOTE
•
One pai nted mark identifies the front connecting rod
bearings and two painted marks the rea r.
