Connecting Rod Selection
T h e weight code is stam ped on t h e connecti ng rod using
an alphabetical code.
If a co n n ecti n g rod req u i res re p l a ce m e nt, you s h o u l d
select a rod with the same weight code a s t h e o riginal. But
if that is u navai lable, you may use one of the others speci­
fied in the chart.

Liquid Sealant Application

Apply a light but th rough coating of liquid sealant to the
crankcase mati ng su rface except to the main bea ring jour­
nal bolt (lower crankcase, 9 m m ) a rea and the oil passage
a rea as shown .
Crankcase Bolt Location
Clean t h e crankcase 9 m m bolts thoroug h ly with solvent
and blow them dry.
Apply clean engine oil to the 9 mm bolt th reads and seat­
ing su rface and i nsta l l them .
Loosely insta l l all the lower crankcase bolt.
M a ke s u re t h e u pp e r a n d l ower c ra n kcase a re seated
securely.
From the inside to outside, torq ue the lower crankcase 9
mm bolts i n a crisscross pattern i n

or 3 steps.
Torque: 31 N·m (3.1 kg-m, 22 ft-lbl
Torque the 8 mm bolts, and then the 6 mm bolts.
Torque: 8 mm bolt: 23 N·m (2.3 kg-m, 17 ft-lbl
6 mm bolt: 12 N·m ( 1 .2 kg-m,
