4.8.7.1.5 RF Source Select
RF Source Select is only applicable if the transmitter is configured with a backup RF
source. RF Source select is software controlled by the Master Controller. It can be
switched manually or will switch automatically if the active source fails (no RF output).
The exciter or RF Source Selection is accomplished by muting the exciter or source that
is not selected, and is done by latching relay K1 on the Life Support board.
EXCITER1_SELECT (RF Source1 Select) is a pulsed signal which will go high to
select EXCITER1 (RF Source 1). This will make U12-8 high if the Master Controller is
working (MSTR_NORMAL 1 will be high). This passes through inverter U13-16 and
RESETs K1. This places K1 in the position shown on the schematic. K1-4 will be
pulled low. This is the EXC1_ACTIVE (RF Source1_Active) status signal indicating
EXCITER1 (RF Source 1) is active.
4.8.7.1.6 IPA Select
IPA select is software controlled by the Master Controller. It can be switched manually,
remotely or will switch automatically if the active IPA fails (no RF output). IPA
switching is done by latching relays K2 and K3. IPA_SELECT lines are pulsed signals
which will go high to select the appropriate IPAs. The IPAs work in the following pairs
in the Z16HD+:
•
AB1 and CD2
•
AB2 and CD1
This is done for system alignment purposes. Therefore if IPA_SELECT_AB1 goes
high, so will IPA_SELECT_CD2. This will make U14-3 and U14-11 high if the Master
Controller is working (MSTR_NORMAL 1 will be high). This passes through inverter
U13-14 and U13-11 respectively. This will RESET K2 and SET K3. This places K2 in
the position shown on the schematic and K3 opposite. K2-4 and K3-4 will be pulled
low. The low from K2-4 goes off the board to the AB IPA Backplane Board where it
places the IPA select relays, K2 and K3, to the position shown on that schematic. In this
case they would select IPA_AB1. The low from K3-4 goes off the board to the CD IPA
Backplane Board where it actuates the IPA select relays, K2 and K3, to the position
shown on that schematic. In this case they would select IPA_CD2.
When the IPA is switched, either automatically, manually or remotely, K2 and K3 will
be switched to the opposite condition of the above example and IPA_AB2 and
IPA_CD1 will be selected. IPA 2 is selected when IPA_SELECT_AB2 goes high which
will SET K2. K2-4 will go high and this will switch K2 and K3 on the IPA Backplane
board to the IPA 2 position. K2 and K3 are also responsible for switching the IPA gate
control voltage (transmitter power control signal) to the active IPAs.
