Interlock is an active low signal which must be pulled low before the transmitter may be
turned on. To use the Interlock, the factory jumper from TB1-7 to TB1-6(GND) must be
removed. Interlock circuit operation was discussed earlier in the Transmitter Turn On
discussion.
4.8.7.1.4 SYSTEM_MUTE
The SYSTEM_MUTE line is used to mute the RF outputs of any RF sources and the
IPA. It is the summation of mute signals from several sources which are discussed
below. The SYSTEM_MUTE is an active high signal at U30-6 and passes through to
U38-3. The signal then splits and goes to relay K1-13 as the RF Source mute, and
through U1-14 as an IPA mute.
a.
RF Source Mute - K1 directs the mute signals, SOFTSTART_MUTE and
SYSTEM_MUTE to the on air RF source (K1 is shown in the RESET or RF
Source 1 on air mode). The mute will pass through either U36-10 or U36-13
depending on the position of K1. If your RF source requires an active high to
mute, then JP1 and JP2 should be left in the 1-2 position. This directs the signal
through inverter U27-2 or U27-4 and then through inverter U28-1 or U28-2 for an
active high mute signal. If your RF source requires an active low to mute, then
JP1 and JP2 should be placed in the 2-3 position where the mute signal bypasses
the U27 inverters and is inverted to an active low by U28-1 or U28-2, again
depending on the position of K1. For proper positioning of these and other related
jumpers, refer to “Jumper Settings for Installation of a Harris Exciter” in Section
II, Installation.
At the same time, a high is imposed on the K1-9 output which activates the RF
Source mute line. A SYSTEM MUTE condition will mute all sources.
b.
IPA Mute - When U5-5 goes low, the analog switch will open, disconnecting U5-
4 and U5-3, effectively shutting both IPAs off. Relays K2 and K3 direct the IPA
gate control voltage to the active IPAs.
The following is a list of signals which can cause a SYSTEM-MUTE:
•
PA_CTRL#_MUTE. This a mute command from the PA Controller Boards which
will be triggered by various events such as a PA being removed or inserted (# is a
number from 1-4).
•
MASTER_IPA_MUTE.
•
FAILSAFE. Discussed earlier.
•
PA_-15V_FAIL. This fault comes from the PA Controller Boards. It is triggered
when there is a failure of the -15V regulator on one of the PA Controllers. If the -15V
supply fails, the PA Controller will not be able to mute the PAs and therefore cannot
protect them, so the exciter and IPA will be muted to protect the PAs.
•
CONTACTOR_ON(BAR). Discussed earlier.
