Quality of Service (QoS)
QoS is an acronym for
Q

ervice. It is a method to guarantee a bandwidth relationship
between individual applications or protocols.
A communications network transports a multitude of applications and data, including high-quality
video and delay-sensitive data such as real-time voice. Networks must provide secure, predictable,
measurable, and sometimes guaranteed services.
Achieving the required QoS becomes the secret to a successful end-to-end business solution.
Therefore, QoS is the set of techniques to manage network resources
.
M-Class
series QoS mechanism integrates a set of techniques to determine how frames pass
through the switch. The different functions are briefly described below. See also
5.
Scheduling:
this function is performed in the Scheduler block on the egress side.
The egress scheduler supports both Strict Priority scheduling and Weighted Fair
Queuing (WFQ). Each egress port has 8 queues.
6.
Classification:
this function is performed in the Classifier block on the ingress side.
The Classifier looks into the header of the frames in order to decide to which Class
of Service to assign the frame. The class of service is actually the queue number to
which the frame is sent on egress (see Scheduling above). The classification is based
on L2 to L4 frame header fields. This enables dynamic and flexible QoS based
handling of the frames.
7.
Rate Limiting:
this function enables control of the traffic flow rate, by policing and
shaping using the following techniques (See

QoS Ingress Port Classification
This section allows you to configure the basic
Ingress Classification settings for all switch ports.
