16.4.2 COMMAND LINE ARGUMENTS
COMPASS uses command line arguments and DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) to generate
reports in the Report Editor after the completion of a test. Running the Report Editor with a
command line of Data File names separated by the pipe character “|” generates a separate
report for each Data File using the current report template. The command line is accessed
using the shortcut target property of an icon in Windows. Familiarity with creating and editing
Windows icons is required to use this feature. Refer to the Windows documentation and Help
for details.
16.4.3 DDE (DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE)
The COMPASS Report Editor has an object that acts as a DDE source that can be changed
to generate a report or open documents. To simplify the DDE exchange, the Report Editor
acts as a source instead of a destination to avoid the requirement for a user setup in the
Report Editor . The three basic requirements to establish a DDE link are the application
name, link topic and link item. These values respectively correspond to: “ COMPASS Report
Editor ”, “mdiReprt” and “lblDDE.” Use these values with the DDE destination application to
initiate the DDE link. Poke Data File names separated by a pipe character “|” into the
“lblDDE” source to generate reports. Poke refers to the technique of setting data in a DDE
source using a DDE destination application.
