For a single ideal line (sine wave), the total value and effect-
ive value match.

9.2.5.17

“Residual value”

The DSP determines (calculates) a weighted sum of all quadratic lines of the fre-
quency spectrum, excluding the three harmonic components and, when applic-
able, a freely definable component of choice.

This characteristic value can be determined only when a cyclical
digital pulse is connected to a digital input/counter (e.g. the pulse
from a rotating shaft). This signal provides the basic frequency fn.

Acquisition of an accurate fn via the digital frequency input is essen-
tial, as is the highest possible resolution for the frequency spectrum.
In the event of deviations between the measured frequency and fre-
quency spectrum's line index, evaluation of the next line takes place.
